Introducing Bioclear, an Alternative to Porcelain Veneers
For people looking for solutions for chipped, discoloured or unusually small teeth, veneers and bonding have always been great options. Now, though, your dentist in McKenzie Towne can offer you a third option. Bioclear is a new alternative to veneers and bonding that involves the placement of thin shells made from composite material over flawed teeth. Here’s an introduction to Bioclear near you.
What can Bioclear do for you?
Bioclear is a quick, non-invasive and one-appointment alternative to veneers, crowns and bonding for remedying teeth flawed by chips, cracks, dark-looking gaps between them, stains, inconsistently sizes, small size, decay and discolouration.
How does the Bioclear process work?
Your dentist will use Bioclear in McKenzie Towne to transform your teeth using a five-step process that is completely painless and accomplished in a single appointment. The ability to walk into your dentist’s office with flawed teeth and walk out of that same appointment with perfect teeth is a game changer, and completely different from the potentially weeks-long timeframe to receive porcelain veneers or dental crowns.
First, the tooth or teeth being treated will be cleaned thoroughly and completely. The cleaning process begins with gently pushing back your gums to expose the full area to be treated. A substance called a “disclosing agent” will be applied that, once in place, will reveal the presence of biofilms like plaque and tartar. Your dentist and their hygienists will remove all those biofilms with a unique cleaning powder and specialized tools without damaging the enamel of the teeth.
Second, a dentist near you will select one of over 20 uniquely shaped Biocleen sheets made from a substance called mylar. The piece will be chosen in a size and shape ideal for forming the mold of the new and newly perfected surface of your tooth.
The next step we want to point out isn’t actually a step — it’s actually a step not taken. To fit porcelain veneers, your dentist needs to alter the underlying tooth by removing a thin layer of veneer. That means that forever after, you’ll need to have a veneer or crown over that tooth. With Bioclean, no enamel needs to be removed from your tooth. Your tooth will remain completely and entirely intact. Down the road, if you ever want to do something and remove your Bioclear, you can do so while still having all your options for protecting and perfecting your teeth.
Third, that mylar form will be placed over your tooth and under the edge of your gums. Once the mylar mold is in place, a warm substance made up of composite resins will be injected into the form.
Fourth, that resin-filled form will be exposed to ultraviolet polymerization to activate the curing of the resin materials before, fifth, the newly defined shape of your tooth or teeth will be defined and polished to blend perfectly and imperceptibly with your natural and healthy teeth.
As long as you take care of the underlying teeth and their new resin layer, Bioclear will remain in place and perfect for a decade or even longer. That decade-plus lifespan of Bioclear is akin to the lifespan of the highest quality veneers and much longer than cosmetic bonding intended for repairing small, minor and shorter-term flaws.
Perfecting your teeth with Bioclear is more expensive than fixing flawed teeth with bonding, but that increased upfront cost is more than made up for by the longer lifespan of Bioclear compared to dental bonding. Compared to porcelain veneers, Bioclear is approximately 25 to 50% less expensive. If repairing or replacing a Bioclear layer is ever necessary, those repairs and replacement will also be far less expensive than replacing a porcelain veneer.
